Winter Math and Literacy Centers for Kindergarten

My winter-themed centers are finally finished!  Luckily, I finished them just in time to have them laminated and ready to go for the new year!

I laminated a couple of the games today.  The graphics were so cute and appealing that both of my readers were excited to play them!

My son played "Snow Day!" with me.  The game provided him with more practice reading CVC words.  He also wrote a few of the words from the game.

My daughter and I played the "Polar Bear Reading Party" game.  She practiced reading and writing sentences with long vowel sounds, blends, and digraphs.

The set includes 5 math and 5 literacy centers.  The activities focus on counting, addition, subtraction, word families, short vowel words, long vowel words, sight words, measurement, and writing.  Click HERE to take a look at the product and to read a detailed description of what's included.  And, don't forget that it's 50% off for the first 3 days after posting!

As always, thank you for reading!

Number Ladders

My daughter and I took some time out from our family festivities today to do a little math.  We were using this very practical "Number Ladders" product from Stacy Pearson.  As you can see, I printed out some base 10 blocks to use with the product, as recommended by the author. While my daughter is good at math, these activities are actually aimed at the grade 1-3 crowd.  The manipulatives were certainly a help for her.   She would not have been able to complete them otherwise.

While she needed a little direction at first, my daughter (kindergarten) was able to complete the easiest page of the ladder pack.  The whole time she was working, I realized that this would be a great challenge work for some of my students who are advanced in math.  These sheets are perfect for assessing a student's understanding of place value.

This packet could be used for assessment, place value practice, early finisher work, or just as a challenging math activity.  Each page is a puzzle of sorts.  They would serve as a challenge to students within a wide grade range.

Plus . . . this item is available in the "Year Round Resources" bundle from Educents for a limited time!  Click on the picture below to take a look!

Gingerbread Cut-and-Glue Math and Literacy for Kindergarten

Yea!  My "Gingerbread Cut-and-Glue Math and Literacy for Kindergarten" is finally finished!  And, yes, for those of you who are counting, it is my THIRD gingerbread-themed product this year!  What can I say?  I just LOVE the gingerbread theme!

The set includes 15 pages of literacy work and 17 pages of math.  It focuses on short vowel word families, addition, subtraction, sight words, and counting.  Each page provides students with the opportunity to practice fine motor skills as well as math and reading.  Most of the math pages actually contain manipulatives for students to remove and use to solve the problems.

This new item is on sale for 50% off through Thursday, November 21st.  Click on the picture above to take a look and to read a more detailed description of the product.

Thanksgiving Cut-and-Glue Sentences

It's official:  fall is in full swing!  I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner!  As I type, I'm looking out the window at the most beautiful tree with bright yellow leaves.  At the same time, village workers are hanging Christmas lights on the tree next to it!

So, in anticipation of Thanksgiving (and to help my little guy get over the ending of Halloween), we did some Thanksgiving-themed cut-and-glue sentences yesterday.   My son is still in preschool, but I was amazed that he knew most of the words AND could put the sentences together.  He did sentences from the kindergarten part of the set.  My daughter (kindergarten) worked on sentences from the end of packet which are geared more toward first grade.  Everyone had fun reading their sentences to Dad and Grandma when they were finished!  At school, I send the completed sentence page home with a little note to read them again to family members.

I have sets of cut-and-glue sentences for every season and holiday.  I use them all the time to work on sight words, grammar, and punctuation.  I have found them to be a very hands-on, engaging way to teach basic language arts concepts.  In my store, you can find 2 sets:  kinder/first and second/third.  Each set uses Dolch sight words from the appropriate grade level and contains a variety of sentences.  Click on the pictures below to take a look!
